The legislation has changed for disposal of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in upholstered seating
December 30th, 2022
With Immediate effect please be aware of the below changes that will affect skips and direct disposals.
Following recent review of Environment Agency guidance and legal responsibilities issued on 19th December 2022. It is with regret that Cumbria Waste Group need to suspend our service for the disposal of waste containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) from the 1st January 2023. Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) may be present in waste upholstered seating.
You are responsible under your duty of care to know if your waste material contains POPs, and to provide an accurate description of your waste to your disposal facility.
Further information can be found from the following links:
- Identify and classify waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
- Waste duty of care: code of practice (accessible version) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
We are actively looking for a solution and hope to resume disposal services for this waste type as soon as possible.
