Successful Dream Placement Development Day for 2020 candidates
January 28th, 2020
Cumbria Waste Group was among the Cumbrian businesses to join almost 50 determined teenagers for a successful Dream Placement development day. The day came in preparation for the students’ Dream Placements which will take place during the February 2020 half-term week.
Dream Placement organised by the Centre for Leadership Performance offers 16-18 year olds the chance to spend a week within one of Cumbria’s most forward-thinking employers, learning about leadership and career opportunities and developing invaluable personal skills. Host businesses benefit by connecting with motivated young people to give them an insight into the careers that exist across the county.
The Development Day was held at Energus on Saturday January 25th, 2020 and included a range of activities designed to build the confidence of the successful Dream Placement candidates.
CfLP executive Director Sarah Glass explains: “Dream Placement was co-created with businesses which now fund the scheme. This 6-month leadership development programme aims to support everyone who applies and not just those who gain placements. Students gain development opportunities throughout the process and have the opportunity to meet with employers and network with other young people from across Cumbria.”
“CfLP is about showing young people that we can all demonstrate leadership in our everyday lives; it isn’t defined by a job role or position held. Dream Placement helps young people develop their leadership skills and gives them a vison of what they can aspire to in leadership roles and help them make informed choices about their future. It is a vital tool in addressing talent attraction and retention in Cumbria.”
“This unique programme is so much more than work experience, providing an insight into leadership, broadening horizons for young people and building their confidence and skills. But it simply could not happen without the support of businesses and partners working together with students and parents.”
Heather Grisedale, Group Employee Experience Advisor for Cumbria Waste Group said, “2020 is our first year participating as a host business in Dream Placement. We’re really excited about introducing Jesse, our placement student, to the different teams across the business throughout the week. The project Jesse will lead will hopefully give him an insight into vital aspects of a business including leadership, communication and stakeholder relationships.”Back
