WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment)
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.
Every year, households and companies discard an estimated 2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic items in the UK. WEEE includes most products that have a plug or need a battery.
Businesses who produce electrical and electronic waste have to, by law, dispose of it in a safe and compliant manner. Householders also need to dispose of it correctly.
This is why Cumbria Waste Group offers a WEEE recycling service. The services covers both the domestic and commercial market.
The five main categories of WEEE are:
- Large appliances, such as washing machines and tumble dryers
- Small appliances, such as irons and kettles
- Cooling appliances, such as fridges and freezers
- Display equipment, such as televisions and monitors
- Gas appliances, such as flourescent tubes.
We collect waste and electronic equipment from Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) and other approved locations. We also work in partnership with companies and councils as trade waste customers for their own WEEE.
This equipment is sent to a state-of-the-art facilities where it is recycled safely and compliantly.
