Christmas tree collection appeal

January 11th, 2018

Cumbria Waste Group was proud to support a hospice charity’s Christmas tree collection appeal.

Each year, Hospice at Home collects and disposes of Christmas trees in the Carlisle and Penrith area.

In return for a small donation, the trees are collected from people’s homes, saving them the job of taking them to their nearest household waste recycling centre.

This year, the Carlisle-based charity approached Cumbria Waste Group to see if they could bring the trees collected in Penrith to our Flusco site.

We were only too happy to help and arranged for the trees to be brought to Flusco for sorting, before they were transferred to our Hespin Wood facility in Carlisle.

Trees weighing 940kg were brought to Hespin before being accepted by AW Jenkinson, who will recycle them.

Both Cumbria Waste Group and AW Jenkinson waived their usual charges for accepting the ‘waste’.

Julie Blundell, Hospice at Home Fundraising and Marketing Manager, said: “Cumbria Waste Group were brilliant helping us out at very short notice and we would like to thank them for their support.

“It will make a difference to local patients, families and carers suffering difficult and devastating times and who have chosen to be nursed at home.”
