The Customer

JELD-WEN was founded by an entrepreneur named Richard Wendt who learned the art of managing a manufacturing company form his father. The original plant was sold at auction and Richard Wendt and his business partners bought many off the assets in October 1960 and from there JELD-WEN was formed.

The business now employs around 21,000 people worldwide operating manufacturing, distribution and showroom locations in the US, Europe and Australia. In the UK the JELD-WEN brand has been in existence since 1999 and now has factories in Sheffield, Melton Mowbray and Penrith; all offering extensive joinery solutions to customers across the UK.

How we helped

After an initial meeting, it was evident that JELD-WEN could improve their recycling rates by introducing internal recycling. We held a meeting on site to get an idea of requirements and from there a new internal recycling plan was set up and implemented.

As this was an entirely new prospect to the customer, we provided support and advice to help ensure they were getting the most out of the service. We introduced separate containers for co-mingled, general and card/paper waste streams and prepared internal signage to help educate staff. We recommend clear bins so that any contamination can be addressed and highlighted.

I addition to the internal recycling our Hazardous Waste team have also been involved in the collection and disposal of hazardous waste from site.
