Castle Park School
THE CUSTOMER
Castle Park School is based in Kendal and has 260 children on its roll. Based on one site the school has two buildings. One teaching Early Years Foundation Stage/Key Stage One and the other teaching Key Stage Two. The aim is to offer the children a curriculum which will inspire a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and exploration, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives in the 21st century. This is achieved through an imaginative and varied curriculum which extensively uses diverse classroom experiences.HOW WE HELPED
We immediately increased the opportunities for recycling. On top of the existing cardboard and paper recycling containers, we provided the school with several co-mingled containers so, for the first time, they could also recycle plastic, cans and bottles.
Our account manager noticed the school was trying to raise funds to buy more books. He suggested adding a textile recycling bank on the site because this would allow local people to recycle old clothes and shoes.
For every tonne of material collected Cumbria Waste Group gave a rebate to put towards the school’s book appeal.
The textile bank was a big success and to date, the school has received rebates totalling just under £200. Recycling has also increased, saving the school money on landfill costs.
WHAT THEY THINK
Our experience with Cumbria Waste Group has been a very positive one. They have been very responsive from day one. Furthermore, if we have any problems or issues they are dealt with immediately with no fuss.
We are delighted to have been able to increase our recycling rates with Cumbria Waste Group’s support and to have been able to receive money back to help the school through the textile bank has been fantastic.
