Household Waste Recycling Centre Permit Scheme
A permit scheme was introduced for users of the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC's) across Cumbria in 2006. The scheme is run by the Cumbria Waste Group on behalf of Cumbria County Council.
The purpose of the scheme is to:
- Reduce congestion at HWRC's
- Restrict commercial use of HWRC's
- Increase household recycling at HWRC's
- Improve health and safety for those using HWRC's
The scheme only restricts access to the site to those customers using vans or two-axle trailers. If you are using a van or two-axle trailer you will require a permit to enter the site.
Permits for recyclable materials are valid for an unlimited number of visits throughout the year; permits for non-recyclable general waste allow one visit per month.
COMMERCIAL WASTE CANNOT BE DISPOSED OF AT ANY OF THE HWRC'S IN CUMBRIA

Apply for a Permit
Permits can be obtained via the permit hotline on 0845 055 1118 or by completing an online permit form. Following a successful application, a permit will be issued in the post and must be presented at the site prior to disposing of your waste.
Disposal of Commercial Waste
If your waste is of a commercial nature, we can collect it, or depending on its nature, you can deliver it to our Hespin Wood, Flusco or Distington landfill sites, our recycling facilities at Carlisle or Workington, or our Hazardous Waste Acceptance Centre in Workington.
